Wed 65 Years

   Mr. and Mrs. Paul H. Root are observing their 65th wedding anniversary with an open house at Merson Church, M-40 at 102nd Avenue, on July 28 from 2 to 4 p.m. 
   Mr. Root and the former Mary E. Evans were married August 1, 1953 by Rev George Kennedy. Their children and spouses are Tine and Mark Root of Muskegon, and Ronald and Susan Root of Plainwell. They have three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. 
   Mr. Root began his career employed more than 17 years at Industrial State Bank. He served as Controller of Troxel Lumber Co. in Battle Creek for 10 years, and retired in 2000 from Hanson Management Corp. He graduated from Paw Paw High School in 1952, and from Wheaton College in 1956, and served two years in the U.S. Army, spending most of that time in Germany. Mrs. Root was Secretary to the Editor of the Woodworking Digest in Van Kampen Press during college years at Wheaton. She also worked at the Kalamazoo Gazette, International Advertising Division. Mr. Root also served clients as a tax preparer for 50 years. The couple retired to his birthplace near North Lake in 1999.
