GOBLES - The Gobles Tigers hosted the Constantine Falcons last Friday night, hampered by key injuries from the week before. Starting quarterback Caleb Brady, running back Hunter Underwood, and Tanner Thorndyke were all out for the game.
“We had a lot of players step up and fill positions where they were needed,” said Gobles Coach Thad Schafer. “Jayden Wyatt was asked to jump in and fill at quarterback. He did everything we asked of him, managed the offense, had two key completions to keep drives going and did not turn the ball over.”
Wyatt was 2-for-6 with 46 yards passing in the game. Dylan Schafer also helped the team out by moving from guard to play a tough role as center.
Gobles could not contain the wing-T offense of the Falcons.  Constantine had touchdown runs of 56 and 75 yards in the first quarter to go up early, 14-0.  They stretched that lead to leave the Tigers behind 28-0 at halftime.              The Falcons returned the second half kick-off 76 yards for another touchdown and went on to win 56-0.
Gobles had 110 total yards to Constantine’s 277.  “We moved the ball better than we did the week before,” noted Schafer. “Our first drive stalled, but was 23 plays; and our second drive was 15 plays.
“We just have to finish and punch it into the end zone.”
Michael Fifer was the leading rusher for Gobles with 61 yards on 18 carries. Andrew Lee had 30 yards on six carries.  Fifer also had to take over the kicking duties for the Tigers. Joshua Lopez and Malakai Curtis each had a reception in the game.
“Every week, we ask more and more of these young players,” Schafer said, “and while the scoreboard does not show it, they continue to step up and get better every week.”
Gobles travels to Kalamazoo tonight (Friday) to play a United team that thumped Lawton this week, 70-0.
