Village of Lawton completes repaving project

The Village of Lawton, through a Rural Primary Task Force grant, completed a repaving project of 72nd Avenue, from M-40 to Nursery Street this week. The stretch of road, above, was in very bad condition prior to the improvement.   The Village also recently put two speed detector signs into operation, according to Lawton Village Manager Dan Bishop. Each solar powered unit, left, makes note of the speed, the number of vehicles, and types of vehicles that travel past it each day.  Project contractor was Reith-Riley Construction Co., Kalamazoo. Bishop said 80 percent of the project was paid  for through a grant, with the village picking up its share of $129,000.
