     DECATUR - The public is invited to attend the official awards ceremony for the 2019 Southwest Michigan Teen Creative Writing Challenge, Saturday, June 15, 2 p.m., Cass District Library, 319 M-62, Cassopolis.
    The event recognizes the first, second and third place winners from the more than 90 submissions in the categories of Fiction, Poetry, Comics and Cover Art by students in seventh through 12th grades.
    During the ceremony, winners will receive their monetary awards and the opportunity to showcase their art and comics, and share excerpts of their writing. When completed, each winner receives a copy of a professionally printed book that includes their work.
    The Southwest Michigan Teen Creative Writing Challenge is sponsored by Cass District Library, Dowa-giac District Library, Hartford Public Library, Lawton Public Library, Marcellus Township Wood Memorial Library, Paw Paw District Library, and Van Buren District Library. Additional support is made possible from the Friends of the Paw Paw District Library, Friends of the Antwerp Sunshine Library, Dowagiac Ladies Library Association, Friends of the Bloomingdale Branch Library, Friends of the Van Buren District Library, Friends of the Bangor Branch Library, and the Friends of the Lawrence Branch Library.

     DECATUR - Webster Memorial Library’s Fundamentals of Photography class continues this summer. The online course, taught by National Geographic Photographer Joel Sartore, is offered Saturdays at 10  a.m. in Decatur, June 8, August 3, and September 7.
    Each month students are given an assignment in order to practice specific fundamentals such as working with shutter speeds and aperture settings. The topics for the remaining three classes include Macro Photography, Working with Low Light, Choosing the Right Image and the Photo Essay.
    Fundamentals of Photography Part II, also taught by Sartore, begins Saturday, October 5.
