Learning can happen in and out of a traditional classroom

Mattawan Middle School sixth graders participated again this year in the Salmon in the Classroom program with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.  The students received Chinook Salmon eggs in October and helped take care of them until they were smolts. Students tested important abiotic aspects of the salmon environment, such as nitrogen levels, water temperature, and pH levels. The young salmon were released into the Paw Paw River from the Paw Paw canoe launch, below the hydro-electric dam on May 17.
