Mattawan man injured in ATV crash

   SOUTH HAVEN - A 40-year-old Mattawan man was injured  Friday, May 10, after he was involved in a crash with an ATV he was operating at a South Haven ATV rental business, according to a press release from the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office.
   Van Buren County Sheriff Daniel Abbott said that the accident occurred at approximately 3 p.m., at KGC ATV Rental, 24835 68th St., South Haven.
   The 911 call reported an ATV crash which occurred on trails located at the business. Bangor Fire Department established command at the scene and requested assistance from South Haven Area Emergency Services, which also provided personnel and a side-by-side UTV, which allowed personnel to access the injured rider.
   Pride Care Ambulance requested West Michigan Air Care for a patient with serious injuries. A landing zone was set up by Bangor Fire Department at Jericho Corners, near County Road 380 and M-43, in Geneva Township.
   The driver was evacuated from the scene in a Stokes basket on the back of South Haven’s UTV. Once clear from the wooded swampy area, Pride Care transported the injured man to the landing zone where he was turned over to West Michigan Air Care for transport to Bronson Methodist Hospital, Kalamazoo.
   Assisting agencies included the Bangor Fire Department, South Haven Area Emergency Services, West Michigan Air Care, and Pride Care EMS.
   Abbott said there were no signs of alcohol use. No charges will be sought.
