MATTAWAN - Mattawan Middle School students are reaching out to support homeless students in Kalamazoo County by way of an online art auction.
Mattawan Middle School Art Teacher Kevin Hamman  said that a Kalamazoo television station reported that in 2018  there were approximately 900 homeless students  attending Kalamazoo Public Schools.
Hamman  said the Mattawan students recognized homeless students are everywhere, including Mattawan, so they created artwork of celebrities who were once homeless, including actress Halle Berry, who once lived in a homeless shelter.
The auction can be found on the Mattawan Consolidated Schools’ web site. All money raised will be donated to the following organizations that help at-risk or homeless students: Mattawan Food Packs, Mattawan Supplies for Success, and Mattawan Area Pantry, and Boys and Girls of Kalamazoo.
