Readers' voice

Dear Readers,
The LHS After-Prom Bash is an event that has been in existence for more than 15 years and was established to provide an alcohol- and drug-free alternative to after-prom parties to keep our students
safe. This event is organized primarily by volunteers of the junior class parents, with assistance from school staff and community members.  It is supported solely by fundraising and donations.  The After-Prom Bash is an overnight event that begins immediately following the prom and ends at 4 a.m.  The typical budget for this event is between $7,000-$10,000. Planning for the After-Prom Bash usually starts at the beginning of the school year (or earlier); so, the 2019 planning is well underway.
Our fundraising efforts have included a letter campaign for donations which, this year, in-cluded “sponsorship levels” ranging from $250-$750 and up. Our sponsors, to date, include:
•Gold Level - $750 donation
TLC&M Tax Preparation and Consulting, PLC

A very special thank you to the Lawton Lions Club, the Lawton Community Center and Ryan Caldwell for the use of the Lawton Community Center and their assistance with this special event.
Other fundraising events have included pop-can drives, candle  sales, movie fundraisers at the Strand theater, 50/50 raffles and concession sales.  We held a successful Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser at D. Coy Ducks on Wednesday, January 16, and our annual Trivia Night fundraiser was held at Big T on Sunday, January 27. Lee Moser and Julie Leighton of Modern Woodmen of America sponsored and organized this event.  This was a matching fund project in which Modern Woodmen will match up to a certain dollar amount. This is always a fun event with a 50/50 raffle and first place cash prize awarded. We had approximately 80-90 people in attendance.
In addition, we have a few upcoming fundraisers:
•Silent Auction/Winter Dance at Community Center on Satur-day, Feb. 23 from 7 p.m. to midnight; open to the public. Tickets cost $10 and can be purchased at the door or by contacting Heather at 377-6110 or Jane at 998-5758.
•Euchre Tournament in March - details are coming soon.
The 2019 Prom and After-Prom Bash will be held at the Lawton Community Center on April 20, 2019.  The theme for the event is “Casino Royale” and there are many exciting things planned for the evening.
From midnight to 4 a.m., we have various events planned to include a hypnotist show to kick off the evening, followed by casino gaming tables (to coincide with the prom theme), mechanical bull riding, inflatable games to include sumo wrestling and a three-lane bungee basketball game.
In addition, we will have a caricature artist, several “Minute to Win It” type games set up, access to a movie room and Bomba’s Food truck on-site to provide late night food.  We’ll end the evening with “give aways” (which will include gift cards, cash, and a few big ticket items) for ALL the kids in attendance.
As mentioned, this event has been in existence for several years, and eventually benefits ALL students that pass through Lawton Community Schools.  The Lawton Community Schools ad-ministration supports this event and the 2019 After-Prom Bash committee appreciates any support the community can provide.
If you would like to make a donation to this event, please contact Jane Jones by cell/text:  (269) 998-5758 or Heather Barr by cell/text: (269) 377-6110.
    Thank you,
    Lawton After-Prom Bash Committee
