County Court honors foster families

PAW PAW - The 36th Judicial Circuit Court held an open house May 24 to celebrate May as Foster Care Awareness Month at the Van Buren County Courthouse, Courtroom 1.
During the open house, the court recognized the contributions and dedication of foster parents and foster care workers in Van Buren County.
Children in foster care need supportive adults to provide loving homes until they can be safely reunited with their family. A loving family can help a child cope with separation and make sure they have opportunities to be a kid, according to a press release.
There are currently 147 children in foster care in Van Buren County. There are 95 licensed foster care homes in the county; many  are licensed relatives. The court and the Department of Health and Human Services rely on foster parents to care for children in their community with the goal of providing services to families in need and preserving families.
