Paw Paw School Board seats new member

   PAW PAW - Following the recent resignation of a Paw Paw Board of Education member, a new member was appointed last Wednesday, June 20, to fill the vacant seat.
   Zachary Morris was appointed to the vacancy created by the resignation of Patrick Lynch.
   In an interview before the board, Morris, the Kinexus Economic Development Director for Van Buren County, highlighted his decade-plus background in working with the private sector to solve talent gaps in the workplace. He also serves on the Antwerp Township Planning Commission.
   Morris spoke about the need for aligning the school’s priorities with that of the employers to make sure students are prepared for the workplace and post-secondary education.  
   Morris said he has three priorities as a board member:
   “• Listen to the parents and students so we can create an exceptional student and parent experience;”
   “• Make sure our teachers are able to continuously grow and develop into outstanding educators and;”
   “• Drive more STEM-related education and exploration to younger students.”
   Morris and his wife, Christina, have two daughters and a son; one daughter will be a sixth grader this fall, his son will be a third grader, while the youngest daughter will be attending Young Fives. He is also active in his church.
   In other action, the board:
   • Approved a budget resolution for 2018-19;
   • Approved a Teacher Agreement for 2018-2019;
   • Approved Support Staff Union Agreement for 2018-19;
   • Approved Phase 2 of the Bond for device, case and cart purchasing in the amount $450,436;
   • Approved Superintendent Sonia Lark’s contract for 2018-19.
