Area Challengers take the field!
Updated: June 29, 2015 - 9:49 am

Young softball players from area communities gathered at the Mattawan Little League fields on Saturday, June 13, for their annual Challengers Jamboree. The Mattawan Wildcats program hosted teams from Kalamazoo, Dowagiac, and Coloma, for morning and afternoon match-ups, with lunch in between provided by Subway. A cloudy start to the day gave way to sunny, clear skies at midday, providing a steamy stint on the ball diamonds for the second game. The Challenger Division of Little League offers children, ages 4 to 22, with physical and developmental challenges, the opportunity to play baseball. Teams are set according to abilities rather than age; each player takes a turn at bat in an inning; and generally, no one keeps score. At the close of Jamboree competition, players received medals, bright orange Challenger Jamboree tee shirts, and many smiles and hugs.
