Hazel E. Cavanaugh Markus

    Hazel Elzora Markus passed away June 15, 2019. She was born February 24, 1937, in Kalamazoo, MI, to Charles and Eva Cavanaugh. She was born into a large family with six siblings.
    She was preceded in death by her husband Richard Markus; her daughter, Pam Clement; son, Rick Markus, and all of her siblings except Chuck Cavanaugh, who passed six days after her.     She is survived by her daughter, Cindy (Stace) Smith; son, Bart (Ellie) Markus; son-in-law, Bryan Clement; and daughter-in-law, Niki Markus.
    She had 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.  
    Hazel lived in Arizona the past 20 years; previously she resided in Gobles, MI, where she and Richard Markus raised their family. She was the attendance secretary at Gobles Public Schools, a Girl Scout Leader, enjoyed sewing, caring for her family, watching and supporting them in all of their endeavors.
    She suffered from Alzheimer’s for the past 10 years, cared for by her husband at home for nine years, until he passed. Alzheimer’s took her memories, but it never took her joy, love, and caring nature, and love for music which she expressed until she passed.
    A visitation will be held at Adams Funeral Home in Paw Paw on September 19, 2019, from 6 to 8 p.m., along with George Cavanaugh. Her memorial mass will be at 11 a.m., September 21, 2019 at St. Catherine of Siena in Portage, MI.
