Gobles hitting heats up

    The Gobles softball team had a busy week, playing a doubleheader at Fennville and came away with a 16-0, 14-1 sweep.
    The Gobles girls played at the Otsego tournament on Saturday, starting out against Godwin Heights. The Tigers belted out 11 hits in the game, and capitalized on Godwin Heights’ 12 team errors to win 18-7.  In the circle for the Tigers was freshmen Amanda Barber, who went five innings for the win.
    Tiger hits came from Destiny Woodard with three (2 DBLs), Libbee Nason with two (DBL), Emily Baxter with two (triple), and Victoria Fenton, Tatum Miller, Maddy Tiller (triple), and Rhaney Harris, each with one hit.
    Next up, the Tigers beat Plainwell by building up a seven-run lead in the fourth inning, and then holding off Plainwell’s charge for a 9-7 win.  
    Gobles scored in the first inning when Emily Baxter doubled, bringing in two runs. The Tigers scored three more runs in the fourth inning when Maddy Tiller and Baxter each drove in runs.         
    Plainwell made a charge in the sixth inning, scoring four runs, but it wasn’t enough.  
    Emily Lopez was the winning pitcher, allowing six hits in the game.  Gobles had hits from Nason (1), Morgan Witt (2), Woodard (1), Tiller (2 - DBL, Triple), Baxter (2 DBLs) and Lopez 1 hit.
