Lady Reds finding their groove

Butch Hindenach -

Paw Paw - The Lady Redskin softball team continued its recent success by taking a pair of games from Sturgis Friday.  Both were wide open scoring events with the Redskins taking the opener, 15-13 and the nightcap, 11-9. Hannah Mellinger had a big day, earning both pitching wins for the Reds. Courtney Ellis had a great performance with four hits, hitting for the cycle,  a single, a double, a triple, and a home run - while plating four runs. Emily Vanderburg and Emma Hasse each contributed two hits to the cause.
Game two was over early as the Redskins scored 15 runs in the first four frames.  A 17-hit attack featured three hits for Mellinger and Audrey Straka. Ellis and Maddie Wilder each added a pair of hits and Wilder drove six runs over the plate.

The Redskins continued their improvement with a doubleheader sweep of Kalamazoo Hackett last Wednes-day, 6-2 and 10-7.
In the opener, a three-run second inning was all that was needed for Hannah Mellinger to gain the victory. Morgen Dwyer and Maddie Hasse led the way with two hits each including a double by Dwyer and also cashed in five of the Redskin runs.
The Irish jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning of the second game, but the Redskins came roaring back to claim victory with a strong offensive performance.             Wilder led the way with four hits and Emma Hasse added three hits and three runs batted in. Mellinger was the second game winner also with a strong six inning relief stint.
