Despite the cold weather on Friday night, the Gobles boys basketball team came out and set the nets ablaze, scoring close to 80 points on the way to defeating Watervliet, 77-61.
“We played our best offensive game of the year tonight, and everyone got involved,” said Gobles Coach Scott Sherrod after the game. “We moved well without the ball and looked to push, but didn’t force anything.
“Brady Burnell played the best game of his high school career and finished only one block away from a triple double,” Sherrod continued. “We will look to carry the momentum into a week where we have three home games after only practicing once in the last week.”
For Gobles, Karsen Tackett scored 21 points and added four assists. Jake Getman  followed with 18 points, while Brady Burnell finished with 11 points, 13 rebounds, and nine blocks. Michael Fifer contributed 11 points and nine rebounds and Hunter TenBusschen had nine points, six assists and four steals.

At home on Monday night, Gobles hosted Saugatuck and the Tigers and Indians went back and forth all night. In the final seconds, Hunter TenBusschen made two clutch free throws to put the Tigers up by two points with six seconds remaining in the game to seal the 58-56 win.
“It wasn’t pretty but we came out with a win,” said Sherrod. “Our boys could never pull away as Saugatuck did a great job of not giving up and making us close out the game. We can learn from some of the late game mistakes.”
Tiger Karsen Tackett had 15 points and five assists, Brady Burnell recorded 10 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks, and Michael Fifer added 10 points and seven rebounds.

Gobles played Countryside Academy on Tuesday night, hoping to extend its winning streak to four games. The Tigers had a good night with the help of guard Karsen Tackett, who scored 24 points and dished out 10 assists on the way to Gobles’ 65-51 win.
“We definitely looked like a team that was playing their first back-to-back games of the year, but we came out with our fourth victory in a row,” said Coach Sherrod. “Karsen Tackett is finding his groove offensively, our bigs are playing BIG, Hunter is excelling in his role, and the bench is stepping up, too.
“I am excited to see where this group of young men end up at the end of the year.”
Trevor King scored nine points and grabbed 12 rebounds for Gobles, while Michael Fifer added seven points and 12 rebounds, and Burnell had three blocks.
