MARTIN - The Lawrence Tigers faced the host team, Martin, for the District championship last week, and played a tough game, but eventually lost, 41-31.
The Clippers took the early lead in the first quarter, until Lawrence senior Dahlia Lopez made it a one point game by sinking a free throw. Not long after, Ahlexis Vasquez cut Martin’s lead again to just one point, after fighting for a rebound and putting up a layup.
Martin retained a 19-13 lead at halftime, which the Tigers were unable to overcome in the second half. Martin sealed the deal by starting off the final quarter with a 10-point lead. Lopez scored the final points for the Tigers when she went 4/4 from the free throw line.
Lawrence was led by Norris who finished with 10  points, followed by Lopez with seven. The girls finished their season with an overall record of 5-16.

The Tigers earned their trip to the District championship game after an exciting  come-from-behind semi-final victory. The Tigers fought their way back from a 14-point deficit to claim a 30-28 win over Byron Center Zion Christian.
Lawrence struggled to put points on the board in the opening half, with senior Valerie Norris the only Tiger to score in the first eight minutes. Byron Center took full advantage of the drought and jumped out a 14-3 lead in the first quarter. The song remained the same in the second quarter for Lawrence, who went into the locker room at halftime trailing, 19-7. But, a motivated Tiger team returned to the court for the second half, and the Tigers slowly started to claw their way back.
The third quarter boost was led by seniors Ahlexis Vasquez and Norris, who scored a combined nine points, and helped Lawrence cut the Byron Center lead down to 25-18.
The Tigers continued to sink shots in the final quarter, and with four minutes left, Vasquez made two free throws to pull the Tigers to within one point, 28-27.
The next few minutes were scoreless, until with under a minute left to play, the Tigers took their first and only lead of game for the win.
