LAWRENCE - The Lawrence Tigers volleyball team hosted the River Valley Mustangs. The Tigers mustered a third set rally, but eventually lost the match, 3-1.
The Mustangs opened up play going on a six-point run. The Tigers quickly battled back and an ace from Ahlexis Vasquez helped cut the Mustang lead to just three, 6-9.
Lawrence led, 10-9, when the Mustangs took off on a scoring streak, scoring nine unanswered points. The Tigers mounted a last-minute rally with Dalia Lopez serving, but dropped the first set to the Mustangs, 23-25.
During the entire second set the Mustangs had control of the lead. Vasquez served up the final points of the set for the Tigers with an ace serve. The set went to the Mustangs, 25-13.
Lawrence kept up the scoring momentum in the third set, which eventually ended in a win for the Tigers. With the help of two ace serves from Lily Rozeveld, Lawrence jumped out to a 7-2 lead over the Mustangs. Lawrence continued to add to the lead, and another ace from Lopez put the Tigers up 12-4. But the Mustangs  inched their way back, eventually tying the set at 14, and again at 20. Lawrence held on to take the set, 25-23.
The Mustangs dominated the final set. Lawrence trailed by only one, 3-4, when River Valley pulled away for a 25-7 win over the Tigers.
Lawrence will play at home Monday when the team hosts the Decatur Raiders.
