Redskins 2nd at Regionals

Butch Hindenach -

Paw Paw’s boys tennis team continued a recent tradition at Regional tourney play with a second place finish last Thursday.  This marked the seventh time in the last nine years the Redskins have continued on to the State Finals, as they finished with 14 points, just three behind the first place Berrien Springs Shamrocks. The state competition will be held at Kalamazoo College and Western Michigan University.
The Regional finish was a team victory with key contributions at each flight for the ’Skins.  At No. 1 singles, (Cam Walker), No. 3 singles (Christian Johnson), No. 4 singles (Michael Hartman), and No. 3 doubles (Reese Golisek-Wisser/Calvin Johnson), the players all reached the semi-finals round.
The No. 1 doubles (Tommy Simon/Jim McCaw) and No. 2 doubles (Gabe Rogers/Josh Van Roekel) tandems were Regional runners-up, and Ben Hulst (No. 2 singles), and the No. 4 doubles duo of Ryen Fusko and Andy Malcolm were Regional champions.
Redskin coach Matt Baleja was honored as the Region 25-4 Coach of the Year.
